The Food Industry Association of Queensland (FIAQ) is proud to announce the recent re-election of Jana Cameron as President and the new appointment of Food Industry expert Les Cook in the role of Vice President, after the recent Annual General Meeting.

Other members elected to the FIAQ committee for the year are:

  • Sofroni Eglezos – IEH Biotest Laboratories
  • David Rigby
  • Sasha Pakkiyaretnam – George Weston Foods
  • Lea Reid – Earlee Products
  • Irina Thompson – OneHarvest
  • John Hudson – Kerry Ingredients
  • Rob Dawson – Stratus Training

In what has been a tumultuous year for the Food Industry across Australia due to COVID-19, re-elected FIAQ President, Jana Cameron says the association is looking forward to harnessing Les’s industry insight and creativity to assist the associations members in pandemic recovery by continuing to increase FIAQ’s presence as a trusted and reliable source of assistance to members as well as other Queensland food manufacturing businesses.  Les says he is “excited to be a part of a highly credentialled committee of food professionals who have the skills to be able to mentor and assist businesses in all areas of food manufacturing,”

Jana confirmed that FIAQ is also looking to help members cultivate their businesses by helping them develop commercial skills and systems that will facilitate growth and capability, as well as assist them in growing their connections to help find the right support and guidance from industry professionals and service providers.

“Since the pandemic hit FIAQ has been working closely with the state government, particularly Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, to ensure continuity of food supply. That included managing border closure and movement of skilled workforce.” Jana said.

In line with the Unite & Recover QLD government plan, COVID-19 recovery is a top priority for the committee, as Food Manufacturing in Queensland continues to be faced with unprecedented challenges.  “We are working on bringing a number of new initiatives to fruition over the coming year that will assist our members to grow their markets by providing introductions to new customers and matching products with supply channels,” Les said.
